Benton County Workers Strike Over Unfair Wages

Benton County workers represented by AFSCME Local 2064, will go on strike today, Wednesday, November 13th at 6:30am. After months of bargaining for a fair contract, county workers are going on strike for wage increases and safety protections.

In addition to rejecting language in every single safety proposal submitted by the union over the last 10 months, Benton County management backed out of a previous agreement on vacancy costing that could have brought the two sides much closer to a deal on wages. The County claims they need millions for 55 vacant positions have not been filled and are not posted.

In the last two weeks, while refusing to consider financial proposals that could avoid a strike and lead to a settlement, the County has escalated their unlawful attempts to stop workers from striking. As a result, AFSCME has filed two unfair labor practices, alleging unlawful coercion and unlawful surveillance.

AFSCME Local 2064 represents more than 300 county workers in Benton County who work in behavioral health and public health clinics, financial services, Records & Elections, staff in the District Attorney office, public works, and many other departments.
