In this edition:
Management Is Watching Hi Maureen! Hi Jon!
This week in bargaining, we learned that Management is Watchful…specifically in the general direction of our Facebook page and this very bargaining update. Jon Uto and Maureen Weber, co-lead City negotiators, acknowledged that they had seen the May 11th Facebook Live post and bargaining update, and so they brought us a list of articles that didn’t exactly even the score, but they did move us closer together. Specifically, we reached Tentative Agreements (TAs) with the City on two more articles, both minor. We moved a letter of agreement into the contract that guarantees that civilian Police Bureau employees have a right to both legal and union representation before an Internal Affairs investigation.
We also signed a Tentative Agreement for parental leave rights. 3 down, a lot to go! At the end of the bargaining session, Jon Uto also took a #DCTUnited wristband, proudly using his new wristwear to announce to the world that he, too, is an Employee of Choice. You go, Jon! Our presenters (BDS and PBOT) kicked butt! We had four workers present to the City this week. Connie Jones, Brian Crise and Brian Quattlebaum, all from BDS, presented the case for selective increases for several Inspector and Plans Examiner series. Rich Thallheimer from PBOT made the case that employees who work holidays should be paid overtime and get to defer the holiday. Deborah Sievert-Morris, a manager from BDS, complemented the presenters on how thorough and compelling their presentations were.
Our June 7th DCTU bargaining rally is rapidly approaching. The rally will be all day on the 7th, with speakers scheduled starting around 11am and ending around 6pm. Lunch will be served around noon.
We would love your help! If you are able to volunteer, please email email@example.com.
